Guided Learning vs. Interactive Courses

Features	Courses consist of online tutorials that students work through based on directions in the course	Courses are written to take full advantage of the resources and tools available on the Internet
	The course content is located on a single Web site. There may be a limited number of links to outside sources for supplemental or research materials	Course will generally require students to glean information from Internet sites they are directed to throughout the course. Student exploration of these sites is integral to the course content
	Computer-scored and some teacher-scored mastery assessments. In general, feedback is provided by the computer. In a few courses, some feedback is provided by the instructor.	Multiple teacher-scored practice activities and assessments with primarily teacher-provided feedback
	Communication is primarily between student and teacher	Communication is between student, teacher, and other students.
		Students may also interact with each other via discussion groups and joint projects
	Student can fully engage the teacher for assistance	Student can fully engage the teacher for assistance
	Student-to-teacher ratio is no more than 40 to 1	Student-to-teacher ratio is no more than 25 to 1
