AP Calculus 1.2 COOLSchool

Procedures - Calculus II: Integral Calculus

Suggestions for Navigating the Course

Creating any Internet-based course presents some interesting challenges. Every teacher at COOLSchool has had to meet very stringent criteria with respect to the quality of the educational materials they have chosen to place into their courses. Every teacher at COOLSchool has had to address legal issues with respect to copyright laws in order to provide links within and outside their specific courses.

Calculus II: Integral Calculus contains some great Web sites that will enhance your understanding of the historical perspective and development of this mathematical tool. In addition, there are also some wonderful tutorial Web sites that will augment the explanations found in the textbook. In order to provide access to some of those sites, however, the links had to be made outside the Web pages of this class. For example, the history references that link to the incredible mathematical biographies Web site from St. Andrews University in St. Andrews, Scotland, will open in a new window. In fact, all links to external sites will open in new windows. Simply close the windows when you are done. The course page from which you came will remain open in its original window.

Many commercial and educational resources available on the Internet are the result of hard work and dedication by talented individuals. Every effort has been made to honor their requirements for linking to their sites, and I greatly appreciate their willingness to provide quality resources that are readily available to you as you study calculus.

Check Your E-Mail Regularly

Every time you check into this course, check your e-mail for new announcements, etc. To do this, go to My Tools and click the E-Mail link. You'll need to log in with your user name and password.

Turn in Your Work

You will be doing most of your assignments in "long hand," and sending them to me for review, grading, and credit. The best way to do this is to use a word-processing program like MS Word or AppleWorks, save your documents in rich text format (RTF), and then copy and paste the text or upload the file using the links in the lessons.

  1. First, set up a separate folder for this class on your computer.
    folder
  2. Save all your files to this folder so that you can easily find them. Be sure to save a copy of all of your work. Name your files so that you can identify them, for example, chap5les1_problems.rtf, chap1les2_problems.rtf, and so on.
  3. When you're ready to turn in your work, click the assessment link in the lesson ("Send your work here"). You'll receive a pop-up inviting you to log in with your user name and password. This takes you to the right place to upload your file or copy and paste the text, and identifies your work with you when you click the Submit button.

To copy and paste your work—in your document, select and copy the text that you want to submit and paste it into the text box in the pop-up window. Check the Submit For Grading checkbox, and then click Submit.

To upload a file—scroll to Optional File Upload in the pop-up window and click the Browse button to find and upload your file. Add comments if you want, check the Submit For Grading checkbox, and then click Submit.

Remember! Save a copy of all your work on your local computer.
