Required Materials - Calculus I: Differential CalculusHardware and SoftwareReview COOLSchool Hardware and Software recommendations. Graphing CalculatorTexas Instruments 83-plus or higher Text BookThe text for the course is Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic by Finney, Demana, Waits, and Kennedy, 1999 (ISBN 0201324458). It can be obtained at used bookstores, or online at AbeBooks.com or CheapestTextbooks.com. There are newer (and much more expensive!) versions of the text available; however, the course is aligned to the page and question numbers in this particular edition, so be sure you are getting the ISBN 0201324458 edition. Advanced PlacementFor those of you interested in taking the Advanced Placement Calculus level AB test offered in the spring, bookmark the College Board's Advanced Placement Web address. This Web site contains information about course content, test dates and preparation, and fee schedules. If you are interested in pursuing this test option as the term progresses, please indicate your intentions by e-mailing me. I would be happy to help you plan out the details of test preparation. Web ResourcesThere are many wonderful Internet Web sites about calculus. Among the sites that I use in my classes are the following: Calculus
Hater's Homepage If you have questions about the required materials or the Web sites above, or about Calculus I: Differential Calculus in general, please e-mail me and let me know. I will respond as soon as possible. Supplementary MaterialsWeb ResourcesWeb sites are located throughout the course content. Please check this page from time-to-time for updates on sites that will help you with Calculus I: Differential Calculus. Video/DVD SeriesThe video series entitled, "Conquer Calculus: Calculus Parts 1 and 2" (formerly known as "The Creepy, Crawly World of Calculus") is amusing and useful for those who need another way to hear/see the calculus material. It is marketed in a boxed set named the "Calculus Video Box" or the "Calculus DVD Pack," and is put out by Standard Deviants. The content is straightforward, and does a good job of presenting the general concepts of both derivative and integral calculus without too many "side trips" into complex topic areas. This series can also be obtained at community college, university, and commercial bookstores. TutorialsPlease check this page from time-to-time or contact me. There are a number of CD-ROM personal tutorials that are available. I'll post several titles for your consideration.
