Audience & Goals

Module 1 Kingdom Monera - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand the importance of prokaryotes to life on Earth.

The student will learn:

* The structure of prokaryotes
* Functions of prokaryotes
* Viral structure
* Virus as a disease-causing particle

Module 2 Kingdom Protista - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand that Protists make an entire kindgom of life that has an important role in the biosphere.

The student will learn:

* Protist structure and classification
* Protists that are useful for humans
* Protists that can harm humans
* Method of feeding, reproduction, respiration, and so on.

Module 3 Kingdom Fungi - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand that Fungi constitute a kingdom of life which most life on Earth relies on

The student will learn:

* How fungi respire, obtain energy, reproduce, and so on
* How fungi are involved in important biochemical cycles
* The role of fungi in everyday human life, in good ways and in bad.
* Fungal taxonomy

Module 4 Kingdom Plantae - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand
* The importance of plants on Earth
* Scientific experimental design

The student will learn:

* How plants obtain energy, respire, reproduce, and so on.
* Plant anatomy and physiology
* Photosynthesis
* Alternation of generations
* How to formulate a hypothesis
* How to collect and represent data
* How to draw conclusions from an analysis of that data

Module 5 Kingdom Animalia - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand the great variety of organisms in Kingdom Animalia

The student will learn:

* The important animal phyla
* The methods by which each phyla complete necessary life tasks
* Internal anatomy and dissection procedure for frogs
* How and why animals are kept at zoos

Module 6 Ecology - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand
* How to compare and contrast differing social and political viewpoints concerning environmental issues
* How human activities can alter environmental conditions and cause degradation of the environment
* The various ways by which materials cycle through an ecosystem

The student will learn:

* To recognize interrelationships among biotic and abiotic elements of the ecosphere
* To generalize that each ecosystem/biome has characteristic plants and animals that are adapted to live there
* To recognize that natural environments are involved in a process of continual change
* To identify possible negative consequences to living resources and the environment from man made pollutants
* To examine their own values and beliefs related to environmental issues
* How to construct food chains and food webs for different types of ecosystems
* To describe how human activities can alter environmental conditions and cause degradation of the environment

Module 7 Physiology - Goals & Objectives

The student will understand the complexity of the human body.

The student will learn:

* Organs and processes involving the digestive system
* Organs and processes involving the respiratory system
* Organs and processes involving the nervous system
