Grading

Approximately 75% of a student's grade is based on assignments which include lab work, reports, research, and participation. 25% of a student's possible earned points is from quizzes and exams. The grading scale is listed below.

You may access your grade through Grades, a UCompass tool. You will see two versions of your grade. One grade describes the percentage of points you have earned out of the TOTAL possible for the entire course. Obviously, when you are first getting started and you have completed only one assignment, you have only completed 15 points out of the hundreds that are possible for the course. This grade will look more accurate as you get closer to completion. The other grade provided is your percentage based on the work that you have completed. It tells you how you are doing on the assignments you have submitted. It is your responsibility to check your grade after you have submitted an assignment. If the feedback link is in red, that means that I have finished grading it, and have feedback for you to read. You may be asked to clarify a statement, or to elaborate on an answer. In some cases, a grade may not be issued until you have responded. If you are wondering why you have not received points for a particular assignment, double check that you have completed any requests in the feedback. I will be notifying your adult contact to periodically ask you to log in, and show them your progress using this UCompass tool.
