Standards

ASL as a Second Language is designed to meet the following Standards and Goals as stated by the Oregon Department of Education: Oregon Proficiency-based Admission Standards System (PASS) Content Standards
     
Goal 1:   Standards
     
To use ASL to communicate in social settings   1. Use ASL to participate in social settings;
2. Interact through signing for personal expression and enjoyment;
3. Use learning strategies to extend communicative competence.
     
Goal 2:    
     
To use ASL in socially and culturally appropriate ways   1. Use the appropriate language and appropriate ways attention-getting behavior varieties, registers, and styles according to audience, purpose, and setting;
2. Use nonverbal communication appropriate to audience, purpose, and setting;
3. Use appropriate learning strategies to extend cultural competence.
