Standards

ASL as a Second Language is designed to meet the following Standards and Goals as stated by the Oregon Department of Education: PASS Content Standards.

Goal 1:

To use ASL to communicate in social settings.
Standards
  1. Use ASL to participate in social settings;
  2. Interact through signing for personal expression and enjoyment;
  3. Use learning strategies to extend communicative competence.
Goal 2:

To use ASL in socially and culturally appropriate ways.
Standards
  1. Use the appropriate language and appropriate attention-getting behaviors, registers, and styles according to audience, purpose, and setting;
  2. Use nonverbal communication appropriate to audience, purpose, and setting;
  3. Use appropriate learning strategies to extend cultural competence.
