Standards

ASL as a Second Language is designed to meet the following Standards and Goals as stated by the Oregon Department of Education: PASS Content Standards.

Goal 1: To use ASL to communicate in social settings.	Standards Use ASL to participate in social settings; Interact through signing for personal expression and enjoyment; Use learning strategies to extend communicative competence.
Goal 2: To use ASL in socially and culturally appropriate ways.	Standards Use the appropriate language and appropriate attention-getting behaviors, registers, and styles according to audience, purpose, and setting; Use nonverbal communication appropriate to audience, purpose, and setting; Use appropriate learning strategies to extend cultural competence.
