Dear Student,

Welcome to the class and the COOLSchool online community. A brief word on your instructor. I grew up here in the Willamette valley (Oregon), graduated from Lebanon Union High, and was very active in my community. I went to Seattle for undergraduate school where I studied English literature, children's literature, women's and gender studies, and theater. After graduation, I took a few years off in order to “see the world.” During that time I worked as a machinist, a welder, a deckhand on a commercial fishing boat, and as a furniture mover. After working as a teacher in juvenile corrections for a year and a half, I returned to Salem and got my Master's degree in Teaching. I have worked both in middle and high school, and have taught online classes for two school districts. Besides classic literature, I read mostly science fiction literature, listen to the radio constantly, and work towards my life goal of defeating every platform game for the PS2.

Once again, welcome to the class, I look forward to working with you. Hopefully together we can make this an interesting and worthwhile experience for you.
