Procedures

Students are expected to do the following:

  • Weekly e-mail to teacher a minimum of 2 times per week. E-mail should include current progress and any questions that the student has.
  • Journaling - Students should keep a journal that they write in a minimum of 3 times per week. Journal entries should be reflective in nature with regard to the reading that they do for the class or for their own enjoyment. Each entry should include the date and time of writing. These should be typed in a simple text editor and saved as .txt (SimpleText on the Mac, Wordpad in Windows)
  • Students should complete a minimum of 1 section of a lesson set per week.
  • Students will be responsible for completing a minimum of 2 writing work samples as prescribed during the semester.
  • Students should complete work in a timely fashion.
  • Students are expected to participate in ongoing threaded discussions. One-line posts are not acceptable "participation." Posts should be appropriately thoughtful and relevant to the topic.

Academic Freedom

Students will have a significant amount of freedom in choosing the subject matter of their written work. This freedom does not indicate a license to be inappropriate. Material that is overly violent, obscene, indicates actual abuse of children or the elderly will be ungradeable and may be turned over to the proper authorities for futher investigation.

Late Assignments

Given the nature of online education, the expectation is that the student will use the online calendar to make a plan to get all work finished in the alotted time. The instructor will contact the student if adequate progress is not being made. No poetry or short story assignments may be turned in during the last three weeks of class. Poetry and short stories should be completed by week 15.
