Alternate Activities

for Three Lakes HS Students

You are responsible for doing all of the activities on the lesson pages EXCEPT for the ones listed below. For the lessons and activities listed below (in the Original Activity column), please substitute the corresponding alternate activities (Alternate Activity column).

Test Your WPM (typing Words Per Minute) and Accuracy (L5Alt)

Go to http://blackdog4kids.com/games/word/typing.html and take the typing test.

Take a screen shot (Print Screen) of your results, PASTE THREE screen shots into MS Word and upload it using the link below. You MUST have "good" in both accuracy and WPM for full points on all three tests (Do the typing test as many times as you want, until you acheive "good" or better).

 

Print screen is when you push the button on your keyboard (to the right of your F12 key) that says "Print Screen, " you then open MS Word up and push two keys simultaneously "control v". This will paste the selection into Word. I should see three screen shots (pictures) of your results.

Go to L5Alt and upload your Typing Results

Trip of a Lifetime! Part 1 (L7-8Alt)

Your task is to plan your Trip of a Lifetime! and create a budget for it using an Excel spreadsheet. Use the following example to guide you. Upload your completed spreadsheet to your folder.

For FULL POINTS you will need the following:

*Costs listed in both the US dollar amount and the foreign currency of your chosen destination (use formulas)

* Subtotals for Travel (air, bus, taxi), Lodging, and Entertainment. (Use "SUM" and formulas to your advantage)

* Grand total for all expenses. (use formulas)
* Total for All Travel, All Lodging, and All Entertainment/Food (use formulas to make your life easier)
* Pie chart showing total travel, lodging and Entertaiment with labels.
* Make it pretty! This should look like it came from a travel agency. Pictures anyone?

Trip of a Lifetime! Part 2 (L10-12Alt)

You've already figured out the costs. Now, your task is to create a PowerPoint presentation for your Trip of a Lifetime! Use the example to guide you. Upload your completed presentation to your folder.

Create a Game in PowerPoint (L13-14Alt)

Your mission is to create an interactive game that uses trivia questions from a designated topic that we've covered in class. Upload your completed game to your folder.

 

Examples: Jeopardy, Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader, Hollywood Squares, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and others here! (http://teach.fcps.net/trt4/FETC03/fun2.htm)

Topics may include:
     Internet Use
     Computer Ethics
     Hardware
     MS Word
     MS Publisher
     MS Excel
     MS PowerPoint
     Telecommunications

Presentations MUST include for full points:

  • "Real Show" likeness (music, format, sounds, play, etc.) AT LEAST five special effects.
  • Hyperlinks (Wrong Answer, Right Answer, You're Right!, etc.)
  • Well-written, accurate trivia questions (at least 15)
  • Prizes (fake money, new car, Cheese Puffs, dream vacation, etc.)
  • System for playing in a class format (Teams? Do you need a buzzer or do you want them to raise their hand? What makes it fun?)
  • Save a copy of your presentation to be shown through the Web (File, Save As Webpage)
  • DO NOT just use my templates or the examples given with your own questions.....
