About Child DevelopmentCan you remember an adult who had a significant impact on your life when you were younger? Many people can. As significant people in a child's life, we can make their road smoother by learning what to expect at different ages and stages, what diseases and medical care to be aware of, and how to care for them. This course is a very small beginning to that end. The study of child development not only helps us become better parents, but it helps us become better aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and friends. We all have contact with children whether we become a parent or not. I also feel that the study of child development is important because it will help us understand ourselves better. As you read, you may be reminded of experiences in your past that were positive or negative. Hopefully, you will discard those negative experiences, and keep the positive ones to use in your dealings with children. A simple egg and a sperm come together and in a relatively short amount of time, these two cells undergo an amazing transformation; they become a living, breathing, growing, and very complex human being. This course will explore the incredible growth process from pregnancy through the first two years of life. As we look at the wonder of fetal development, birth, and a child's growing connection with an understanding of their world, my hope is that your desire to learn more and understand children better will be piqued. Enjoy the opportunity to learn how to make a significant impact in a child's life!
