Child Development COOLSchool

Course Outline

This course is 18 weeks of instruction for 0.5 high school credits.

In this course you will examine the growth process of a child from the moment of conception to two years of age.

Some areas of study will be:

  1. Pre-parenting and Overview: You will take a look at some areas of life that should be considered before you decide you are ready to have children.
  2. In the Womb: You will follow the path of growth that the baby goes through in nine months. How substance abuse, stress, depression, and violence can affect the pre-born. What kind of environment the baby is "grown" in, has a lot to say about the baby's quality of life.
  3. Birth: We will discuss the different types of birthing processes, the needs of the baby, and immunizations.
  4. Growth Process: The five pathways of growth (physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual) will be explored through five age-based lessons : 0 - 3 months; 4 - 9 months; 10 - 12 months; 13 - 18 months;, and 18 - 24 months.
  5. Technology and Child Development: Our final chapter will be exploring the topic of babies and technology.

Student performance will be assessed with written reports, quizzes, observations, and discussion groups. We will communicate through e-mail and feedback on quizzes and submitted papers; however, discussion groups can be a wonderful source of involvement. I will be checking those and letting you know how you are doing in all areas of the course.
